About ERIK

As a college psychology instructor and cognitive scientist with over a decade of experience, I bring a deep understanding of how the brain learns—and how real students struggle. I've taught psychology, neuroscience, and education courses at universities and have worked one-on-one with students who are falling behind, burned out, or ready to give up. I know that academic challenges are often emotional challenges in disguise, and I approach each student with empathy, structure, and research-backed strategies. My professional background includes postdoctoral research in social-affective neuroscience, course design for adult learners, and collaboration with leading experts on student engagement. I’ve published in the fields of motivation, interest development, and the neurobiology of empathy, and I regularly work to translate complex psychological research into practical tools for students and teachers. You can expect a highly personalized, compassionate, and science-based coaching style—one that’s as focused on mindset as it is on memory, and just as concerned with emotional well-being as GPA. About the lesson

As a college psychology instructor and cognitive neuroscientist, I’ve worked closely with students on the edge of burnout—failing classes, falling behind, or feeling like they’ve lost direction. My approach combines research-based strategies from neuroscience and psychology with practical emotional coaching. I help students not just “try harder,” but actually understand why they’re stuck—and how to move forward.

Many students I work with say things like, “I know what I’m supposed to do—I just don’t do it.” Whether it’s procrastination, self-sabotage, perfectionism, or lack of structure, we tackle these blocks with compassion and strategy. I use cognitive-behavioral techniques, habit science, and guided reflection to help students rebuild confidence and momentum.

Each session is a mix of practical skill-building and mindset coaching. We might clarify goals, design a study system, break through avoidance patterns, or work on reframing negative self-talk. Sessions always end with a small, doable plan to take into the week—because real change happens in the follow-through.

What sets me apart is the integration of emotional insight with academic skill. This is not just tutoring—it’s coaching for students who are ready to stop spinning their wheels and start moving forward with clarity and purpose.
