About Caleb
I am a passionate earth scientist, who has been obsessed with the story of the planet since I was 4. Since then my passion and curiosity have only increased. I have a background in organic and inorganic geochemistry, combined with sedimentology and geobiology. I have spent a field season in Antarctica, mapping glacial features in East Antarctica, and delight in sharing my enthusiasm for all-things geology with those around me. I tutored for several years while at uni and became the primary teaching support role. I now work as a professional geologist but maintain frequent outreach and engagement activities with various groups including Geoscience Olympiad students. Whatever your goal, I am sure I can help you get there! Let's do it together :)

I believe in active learning, rather than passive lecturing. I am passionate about finding real-world applications to abstract and theoretical concepts. At the root of every complex argument is a simple idea. The key is to dig this out.
I am adept in all fields of classical geology, including sedimentary systems, igneous geochemistry, and metamorphic pathways. I can also assist with classical biology and chemistry, with a PhD that combined these fundamentals with geology to quantify ecosystems and reconstruct paleoenvironments in the geologic past. Organic and inorganic geochemical signatures in sedimentary rocks give us clues about what was living in the geologic past and under what conditions. Sometimes life thrived, and sometimes it demised, which may be linked to changes in tectonics, global climates, or evolutionary developments. I like to use this backdrop to convey the significance and application of foundational concepts in biology, geology, and chemistry.
