About Chloë
I am an educator, writer, artist and academic based between Melbourne and Berlin. I have over 20 years of teaching experience and hold a PhD from Monash University. My background in academic research, performance and communication gives me a thorough foundation for helping students. I am entirely confident that I can improve their English for all specific purposes , focussing on building competence, clarity and enjoyment.
I have worked with students at many different levels, from school-aged learners through to university students, adult learners and emerging professionals. My teaching experience includes one-to-one tutoring, preparation for interviews and exams, university teaching, workshops, mentoring, written feedback, presentation support and discussion-based learning.
As an English tutor, I place strong emphasis on the specific needs, and difficulties, of each person. My approach is entirely based on the goals and the pace of development of the individual student. I focus on conversation; formal, colloquial or specific to a particular area of interest, helping students become more confident and comfortable expressing themselves clearly and thoughtfully in English.
I love seeing my students thrive and enjoying their own progress. I adapt my teaching to the student’s personal learning style, whether they want to improve everyday communication, prepare for study, strengthen their writing, or just to become a more confident English listener and speaker.

I have been teaching for over 20 years across primary, secondary, university and private settings, working with students of many different ages, backgrounds and confidence levels. My experience includes one-to-one tutoring, university teaching, workshop facilitation, academic mentoring, written feedback and student support.
From this depth of experience I have come to see each lesson as unique. I prepare by carefully reviewing the previous lesson and use this as a basis for an initial conversation, checking progress and establishing with the student mutually agreed goals for the lesson. Modelling the language features, repetition, practice, explanations and considering various relevant examples of spoken and written texts, all are employed as appropriate.
I encourage questions, acknowledge effort and achievement. Humor, anecdote and the specific interests of students all offer rich and useful language learning, as well as serving to make the lessons enjoyable and relaxed, while maintaining a rigorous focus on deliberate and recognisable learning strategies. At the end of each lesson we make sure the aims have been achieved and agree on specific tasks to prepare for the next session.
As someone who loves the English language I am also aware of its linguistic idiosyncrasies, which can cause confusion. I support students with conversation practice, pronunciation, vocabulary, reading comprehension, writing, grammatical features, essay structure, academic expression, creative writing and confidence building. I place a strong emphasis on natural, colloquial conversation, ensuring students become comfortable, fluent and expressive in spoken English.
My teaching style is warm, patient and friendly. I am proud of the success I observe in my students whether they want to improve everyday communication, build confidence, prepare for study, develop stronger writing skills or simply practise speaking English in a relaxed and supportive environment.

I was incredibly lucky to have Chloë as my mentor during my last year studying Composition and Music Technology at university. Chloë created a comfortable space where I could bring my half baked ideas (or, lack thereof) that, with her mentorship, grew into my best works to date; music I feel proud of! Chloë would direct my learning by finding specific musical techniques and research, breaking down these ideas to my level of understanding and finding helpful connections between these techniques and my own aspirations. Chloë would demonstrate how I could apply these methods to accomplish and/or strengthen my ideas, and would be receptive to my thoughts - allowing me to always feel heard and valued. Chloë would also guide my practice by challenging me to do my best work, including by providing feedback - which was consistently delivered in a respectful and constructive manner. As confirmed by my and my peers experiences, Chloë curated engaging lessons that benefited the individuals' learning intentions and musical goals - whilst allowing us all to feel supported along the way. This made Chloë an exceptionally adaptable teacher who was able to build rapport with students across the board - as she showed excellence in varied scenarios. Even those of us with the weirdest ideas turned in high quality work that reflected personal artistic integrity - Chloë does not shy away from the unique, she manages to embrace this and make it amazing. I know many personally (including myself) who already miss having lessons with Chloë, and I would wholeheartedly recommend her, from beginners, to emerging artists and particularly to those looking to find and refine their sound!
Thank you so much Chloë - I wouldn't have survived my final year without you.Chloë is an inspiring educator. She approaches each and every session with the patience and open-mindedness necessary to explore and make sense of seemingly abstract concepts, while maintaining a structured process to ensure these concepts reach their desired, tangible manifestation. Her guidance has helped me restore the confidence and creative fortitude in my own endeavours.
Chloë helped me complete my final composition last year. I really enjoyed the lessons we had together as she is really knowledgable, patient, and encouraging when it comes to music theory and composition! Her teaching helped me improve my confidence, refine my music, and think about music in a much deeper way.
Chloë was one of the most important teachers I had during my undergraduate studies in composition and music technology. I studied with her for a couple years, including individual mentoring that culminated in my thesis.
What always stood out was how seriously and thoughtfully she engaged with any idea I brought to her. She created an incredibly collaborative learning environment where I genuinely felt she was on the student’s side creatively and intellectually. Her knowledge of experimental and electronic music is immense, but what made her teaching so valuable was her ability to make complex ideas feel clear and workable, in other words streamlining :) . Her feedback was always insightful, I would wholeheartedly recommend her to anyone interested in composition, electronic music, or developing a stronger artistic practice.Chloë is a warm and encouraging teacher with extensive music experience across composition and improvisation. I learned so much from our lessons and found her teaching to be practical and engaging. Beyond that, Chloë helped me develop new confidence and skills, and I have enjoyed continuing to implement what I learned from her in my music practice. Highly recommend!
As the Principal of a senior college Chloë provided individual lessons for some of my students. She was absolutely reliable, took great pains to get to know the specific needs of each student and was genuinely interested in helping each one become confident and successful. Highly recommended!
