About Chen
I started learning Japanese at 12 because of my interests in anime. Mostly self-taught, I passed JLPT-N1 in 2013 and can speak near-native Japanese now. I stay close to Japanese pop cultures (anime, TV dramas, films, J-pop, YouTube, etc.) but also read academic articles in Japanese.
As a non-native speaker, my greatest advantage lies in my understanding of the knowhows to learn Japanese as a second language.
Have a MA degree in East Asian Studies from Duke and currently doing PhD in the same area at McGill. Worked as a TA for Japanese Level 2 at McGill and have experience in tutoring one-on-one high-school and university students and office workers.
