Hello! I’m excited to guide you through this learning experience. With a Bachelor of Arts focused in Philosophy and English and additional studies in History, Social Sciences, and Theology, I bring a broad and deep understanding of the humanities to every lesson. During my college years, I had the privilege of writing extensively on various topics, including philosophical anthropology, metaphysics, epistemology, political science, and both Western and Eastern civilizations. In addition, I studied the works of literary giants like Shakespeare, Charlotte Brontë, Charles Dickens, and Edith Sitwell, which enriched my ability to analyze complex ideas and communicate them clearly. I am passionate about helping students navigate challenging concepts and express their thoughts with precision and clarity. Throughout my academic journey, I honed the skills necessary to break down intricate subjects into approachable and engaging discussions. My goal is to furnish you with the knowledge and confidence to excel in your own academic pursuits. I take pride in maintaining a high level of professionalism, ensuring that every lesson is both informative and inspiring. About the lesson

My tutoring approach centers on the Socratic Method, encouraging students to think critically and question their assumptions. I guide them to discover answers on their own through thought-provoking questions, fostering deeper understanding. This method is combined with a flexible, freestyle approach that adapts to the unique needs and learning styles of each student. I blend tough love with encouragement, pushing students to overcome challenges and achieve success.

When working on papers, I follow a structured yet adaptable plan tailored to the specific assignment type. We begin by discussing the structure of the paper—whether it's a 5-paragraph essay, persuasive essay, or research paper—and the importance of outlining to organize ideas effectively. I then help students define the focus of their paper: formulating a research question for research papers, defining a clear argument for persuasive essays, or choosing a manageable topic for 5-paragraph essays. From there, we work on crafting a strong thesis statement that serves as the foundation for the essay.

I teach students how to conduct research, emphasizing how to identify credible scholarly sources, evaluate them, and cite them properly. Inspired by Mortimer Adler’s "How to Read a Book", I show them how to read critically and take effective notes to strengthen their arguments. We then move on to citation styles (MLA, Chicago, or Turabian) to ensure they’re properly crediting sources and avoiding plagiarism.

The writing process continues with the first draft, where I encourage students to focus on expression rather than perfection, and then we dive into revisions, strengthening their arguments and refining the paper’s clarity and structure. We focus on proofreading, paying attention to grammar, style, tone, and readability, and finish with final edits to ensure the paper is coherent, consistent, and polished.

These lessons are ideal for high schoolers preparing for college-level writing. I aim to help students develop the critical thinking, research, and writing skills they need to excel in their academic careers.

Greg responded to my lesson request quickly and strategically set up a lesson plan to catch me up. Even on days when we didn't Zoom, he was responsive via email and equipped to provide useful reading/writing strategies that I will continue to implement with future assignments.

Greg's lessons are more conversational than lecture-based, so if you prefer the latter, he may not be the best fit. Talking about philosophy can be intimidating, but I felt comfortable asking questions and speaking up when I didn't understand something.
