About Mariela
After 13 years in youth symphony and regional chamber ensembles, I realized that my transition to teaching was inevitable. I found that I truly enjoy the challenge of teaching jazz improvisation, memorization techniques, chord voicing, posture and hand position, ear training, classical repertoire, sight transposition, hand independence, rhythm and timing. Your first session involves a deep look at how you approach the keyboard as I observe your current posture and hand position. You will discover that my BMus degree from Rice influences how I break down intricate scores into manageable sections. I combine my 11 years of experience in orchestral settings with specific exercises for hand independence and sight transposition to help you improve.
A progress tracker shared with parents every month helps me stay organized. I personally enjoy watching you connect the theory to the keys.
