About Ursula
I’m a piano tutor with over 7 years of experience and a Bachelor of Music Education with a focus in voice. My background gives me a deep love for rhythm, phrasing, and groove. I bring that energy into every lesson, making music feel alive from the very first note. I specialize in rhythm-driven learning—think syncopation, steady pulse, and playful beats that make the music move. I teach students how to accompany singers with style and sensitivity, blending chords and rhythm to support the voice. We dive into jazz voicings, rhythmic variations, and improvisation techniques that make your playing pop. Whether you're drawn to the bounce of funk, the soul of gospel, or the hooks of pop, I’ll help you develop the skills to play with flair and feeling. We work on timing, expression, and groove that fits right in the pocket. Lessons are always hands-on, creative, and filled with feel-good energy. My piano teaching methodology centers on body awareness, calm focus, and expressive control. I believe that a relaxed body supports a relaxed mind, which opens the door to meaningful music-making. Lessons begin with the basics—seated posture, balanced alignment, and relaxed hand arches—so that technique feels natural, not forced.
I guide students in using fluid motion across the keys, allowing their playing to flow with both ease and intention. Visual thinking strategies, like pattern recognition and mental mapping, help students read and remember music more effectively. Each exercise is designed to develop not only skill, but also musical understanding and quiet confidence.
For students who thrive on structure, I offer clear, step-by-step goals and consistent feedback. For those who need gentle motivation or creative freedom, I create space for exploration, imagination, and personal expression. I support learners in becoming not just better pianists, but more thoughtful, present musicians.
Whether you’re seeking refinement for performance or simply wish to play with more feeling, I’m here to guide you. Together, we’ll build technique that supports artistry—and music that speaks from the heart.
