About Anna
Postdoctoral researcher offering ethical thesis writing mentoring, scientific English support, and detailed academic feedback for international Master’s and PhD students. Specialising in clarity, structure, and academic confidence — not ghostwriting.
I am a PhD-trained geneticist and current postdoctoral researcher at Stellenbosch University, offering thesis writing mentoring, scientific English support, and academic feedback for Master’s and PhD students.
I previously studied and taught at University of Glasgow, where I completed my BSc (First Class), MSci, and PhD in Genetics, graduated with the Pontecorvo Prize, and worked as a Graduate Teaching Assistant from 2017 onwards.
Having moved from Bulgaria to the UK to study and work in academia, I understand first-hand the challenges of doing advanced scientific work in a second language. I now specialise in supporting international students — particularly Asian Master’s and PhD students — who feel confident in the science but struggle with writing, structure, clarity, or academic confidence.

How my lessons work (important)
My lessons are mentoring-focused, not traditional tutoring. We work on:
Understanding what you are trying to say scientifically
Improving how clearly and confidently you say it in academic English
Structuring theses and chapters so they meet examiner expectations
Building skills you can reuse independently across your degree
This is especially helpful if your supervisor gives comments like
“unclear”, “needs work”, or “restructure” — without explaining how.
What I help with
I offer structured guidance and detailed feedback on:
Master’s & PhD thesis writing
Scientific writing and coursework
Laboratory reports and dissertations
Abstracts, posters, and conference materials
Research proposals (MSci / PhD)
University applications (undergraduate, MSci, PhD)
Academic CVs and cover letters
I have extensive experience marking and assessing academic work to university standard, and my feedback reflects current expectations in UK and international academia.
Academic integrity (clear boundaries)
I do not write theses or assignments for students.
Instead, I:
Proofread for language and clarity
Provide line-by-line comments and suggestions
Explain why changes are needed
Help you revise your own work confidently and ethically
This approach protects you, your degree, and your academic independence — and is fully aligned with university integrity policies.
Who this is for
International Master’s & PhD students
Asian students writing in English as a second language
Students who feel stuck, anxious, or unsure how to improve
Students who want mentoring, not shortcuts
Many of my students come to me feeling overwhelmed or doubting their ability. They leave feeling clearer, calmer, and more confident about submitting their work.
Recommendations

I met Anna during my undergraduate genetics project at the University of Glasgow. Apart from the very valuable advice and mentorship regarding postgraduate studies, Anna helped me with my CV and personal statement for the aforementioned applications. In addition, Anna explained various concepts regarding genetics to me and was available whenever I had questions. I highly recommend this tutor to prospective students, due to her approachable manner and expertise in the field of biology which makes understanding easy.
Anna was always very good at breaking down complex multistep problems into bite sized understandable chunks. Anna is a good listener and by paying attention to my understanding of an issue was able to pinpoint problems I was not aware of.
In particular Anna helped me prepare for my Msci course and what to expect on this course. This laid the ground worker for being successfully selected for my PhD position with Oxford University. Anna's support and advice was instrumental for preparing me for this role.Anna is such a great person! She was a PhD candidate when I was doing my masters research project and she helped me with my molecular biology experiments. She also gave me good career advice/tips. I highly recommend her!
Anna was an amazing help during our third-year Genetics course at the University of Glasgow, especially considering most of us hadn’t had much lab experience due to the pandemic.
Anna eased us into practical bench work by explaining the protocol and theory of experiments, giving guidance on how to effectively and safely carry out techniques, and most importantly, having mutual respect for each of us classmates. Anna also didn’t hesitate to repeat techniques so that each of us were confident in carrying them out ourselves.
The lessons themselves were very interesting, insightful and well thought-out. Each day had a well-outlined schedule, learning outcomes, and experiment aims. Most importantly, Anna also encouraged us to critically think and evaluate our results as a good scientist should.
Overall, I can’t recommend Anna enough as a tutor.Anna is super reliable and always on time. Beside that she's also a great teacher and takes the time to explain difficult concepts thoroughly and is always making sure you fully understand.
