About Kesatebrhan Haile

Kesatebrhan Haile Asressu received his M.Sc. degree in Organic Chemistry from Haramaya University, Ethiopia in July 2010. He completed his Ph.D. in Sustainable Chemical Science and Technology with specialization in Carbohydrate Chemistry under the supervision of Prof. Cheng-Chung Wang at Academia Sinica and National Yang Ming Chiao Tung University, Taiwan in January 2020. During his Ph.D. study, Kesatebrhan has worked in the development of synthetic methodologies for the synthesis of sialo-glycans. After his Ph.D graduation, he worked as Postdoctoral Research Associate at the Institute of Chemistry, Academia Sinica with Prof. Cheng-Chung Wang and has developed an efficient synthetic methods for the procurement of small molecules. Then, he moved to the University of North Carolina at Greensboro (UNCG), USA to further pursue a Postdoctoral Research with Prof. Qibin Zhang. During his position at UNCG, Kesatebrhan worked on the identification, quantification and synthesis of lipid standards containing very-long chain fatty acids. Since December 2022, he is working as a Chemical Biology and Medicinal Chemistry Postdoctoral Research Associate within the Structural Genomics Consortium-University of North Carolina (SGC-UNC) at Chapel Hill.

About the lesson

My educational background in Bachelor of Education in Chemistry and my strong teaching experience introductory and Advanced Organic Chemistry and Biochemistry courses at university level would made me a qualified candidate as a tutor in Chemistry courses. On top of that, I have been working as a Postdoctoral Researcher since February 2020.
My theoretical knowledge and multidisciplinary research experience in Organic Chemistry stream which I gained from my M.Sc. and Ph.D. studies and from postdoctoral position, foster me to teach students either in person and via online.
Additionally, my 8 years teaching and research experience at Haramaya University, Ethiopia, would enable me to teach Medicinal Chemistry, Biochemistry and Organic Chemistry courses. I have also taken several core courses like Advanced Organic Chemistry, Advanced Chemical Biology II, Biochemistry, Molecular Spectroscopy, and Modern Experimental Techniques in Chemistry. Moreover, I took the courses Pharmaceutical Chemistry and Chemistry of Natural Products which were offered by University of California, Davis, USA in collaboration with Academia Sinica, Taiwan.
It is always my strong stand that all students are unique and have a right to learn in conducive learning environment to use their hidden potential. A good teaching should be always interactive in a class and its effectiveness has to be measured by the performance of students inside and outside classrooms. Due to my outstanding academic achievement, I started to teach the subject Mathematics for students who score less than the average (50) when I was grade 9 student. After I began my Bachelor of Education (B.Ed.) in Chemistry in the Faculty of Education at Alemaya University (later changed to Haramaya University), I had also given tutorial classes for female students. I usually prepared my teaching materials in advance. To implement effective teaching, I prepare a lesson plan for the courses which I offer. As a guide for students, I provide a course outline on my first class which consists of objectives, descriptions, chapters with its sub-topics, references, mode of assessments, plagiarism declaration and schedule for the course. As per my lesson plan, I clearly define the objective of the lecture to students and explain the content conceptually.
