About Travis
Teaching is my passion. My students have described me as "eccentric", and "highly knowledgeable, with the spirit of a pedagogue." They say that I have an "engaging style of teaching" that is "very humorous." According to my students, "the method of learning is new and forward thinking."
My expertise is the design and implementation of novel digital musical instruments and interactive music systems for live performance. I work with musicians to develop cutting edge musical scenarios that incorporate sound, movement, and space to create new kinds of musical experiences.
My goal is to help you master the subject, and the process of learning itself, so that you can achieve your unique goals. My methods of instruction are suitable for young adult and older students.
I have been teaching for over a decade and working with music technology even longer. I have a BFA in electroacoustic studies from Concordia University and a PhD in music technology and computer science from McGill University and the Université de Lille.

Learn C++ by making sound and music.
Whether you are a beginner looking to learn C or C++ through hands on projects in an exciting and creative application area, or you are already familiar with the language and looking to develop your skills in sound processing and interactive electronics, I offer a unique pedagogical approach that emphasises practical applications of C and C++.
Advanced students will learn to create digital musical instruments--interactive physical devices that enable novel forms of musical expression. This is not only a fascinating and gratifying project, but also an opportunity to develop versatile skills and sensibilities such as real-time programming and memory constrained systems design that are applicable in many problem domains.
Typical class may address some of the following topics:
Expressions, statements, variables, assignment operators, functions, scope, recursion, loops, classes, static types, type conversion, templates, template metaprogramming, compile-time computation, design for testing, large scale system architecture, compilation, linking, build systems, git, command line, IDEs, and more!
