About Ewan

I'm Ewan, and I'm currently studying (very soon to graduate!) to be a High School Mathematics teacher.

I have over 36 months combined work experience teaching and tutoring High School Mathematics including my practical experience through university, full-time work as a classroom teacher, online private tutoring, and volunteering through my school to do mathematics tutoring at a homework club after class.

I really enjoy helping students of all backgrounds grow in confidence and achieve their personal goals in mathematics, and try to cater as much as I can to the needs and learning styles of my students.

About the lesson

I have over 18 months experience teaching Mathematics in NSW 7-12 classes, and an additional 18 months experience as a private Mathematics tutor.

I try as much as possible when teaching or tutoring Maths to find explanations and methods that work for each individual, so that they may develop a deep grasp of the topic at hand as well as how each topic fits into the larger framework of mathematical understanding.

Mathematics, like all languages, must be practiced and engaged with to be understood; and as a result I tend to base my teaching primarily around discussions and problem solving. I aim to be as flexible as possible to accommodate all needs, learning styles and levels of confidence with the topic, and am more than happy to alternate methods by request to fit the student. I typically prefer lessons to be around the 1-hour mark as it allows enough time to really get into the meat of the subject, but I am happy to be flexible to suit needs or preferences here.

The vast majority of my experience as a teacher and tutor has been with NSW 7-12 students, including Mathematics Standard 2 and Mathematics Advanced for HSC students, but I am happy to have a chat with anyone looking for Primary School, non-NSW High School, or some earlier levels of University-level Mathematics tutoring and see if I can help.
