About Emily
Kia ora, I am Emily. I come from China. I hold a Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics from East China Normal University and a Master’s degree in Finance from Southeast University, giving me a strong foundation in mathematics, logical reasoning, and problem-solving. I also hold a Chinese senior secondary mathematics teaching qualification.
After graduation, I worked in the banking sector for eight years, where I regularly explained complex quantitative concepts to clients and colleagues with diverse backgrounds. This experience strengthened my ability to communicate clearly, structure explanations logically, and adapt my approach to different learners.
I have also gained experience supporting students with IELTS preparation, which helped me develop a learner-centered and encouraging tutoring style. I believe effective tutoring is not just about providing answers, but about helping students understand key concepts, build confidence, and develop independent thinking skills. I am patient, well-organized, and committed to supporting students to achieve steady and meaningful progress.

My lessons are student-centred and structured around clear learning goals. I begin by identifying the student’s current understanding and learning needs, then explain key concepts step by step using clear language and worked examples. I place strong emphasis on building conceptual understanding rather than memorisation, and I encourage students to explain their thinking to develop confidence and mathematical reasoning. Lessons are adjusted to the student’s pace, with regular checks for understanding and targeted practice.
Typical lesson length
A typical lesson is 60 minutes, which allows sufficient time for concept explanation, guided practice, and feedback. Shorter or longer sessions can be arranged depending on the student’s needs.
Qualifications and tutoring experience
I hold a Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics and a Master’s degree in Finance, and I am a qualified senior secondary mathematics teacher in China. I also have experience supporting students with IELTS preparation. In addition, my professional background in banking has strengthened my ability to explain complex quantitative ideas clearly and logically to learners with different levels of confidence.

My lessons are suitable for primary to intermediate school students, particularly those who need support with mathematics, problem-solving skills, or exam preparation. I work well with students who want to build strong foundations, improve confidence, or develop clearer thinking strategies.
