About Phoebe

As a professional singer, actor, and coach, my passion for teaching stems from a lifelong love for performance and the transformative power it holds. My journey began at the Drama Centre, where I received intensive training in acting, followed by four years of specialized performance studies at the University of Cape Town (UCT). This experience gave me a deep understanding of the craft—how voice, body, and emotion come together to create authentic, powerful performances. It also shaped my belief that performance is not just an art form but a profound means of self-expression and personal growth.

Over the years, I’ve developed a coaching style that draws heavily from my background in movement and yoga, emphasizing the connection between the body and voice in both acting and singing. I believe that to perform well, one must be fully present in the body, and this embodied approach has been central to my work as a performer and teacher. My goal is to help students of all levels tap into their inner strength, find their voice, and gain the confidence to fully express themselves—whether that’s through a monologue, song, or public speaking.

I am passionate about sharing the tools and techniques I’ve learned throughout my career, but more than that, I want to guide others on their own journey of self-discovery through performance. Teaching allows me to help others unlock their potential, not only as performers but as individuals. Whether it’s helping someone prepare for an audition, develop their vocal skills, or simply build confidence, I see performance as a way to empower people in all areas of life. Watching my students grow in their craft, find their voice, and step into their power is the most rewarding part of what I do. This is why I teach—to help others experience the same sense of fulfillment, confidence, and creative freedom that performing has brought to my own life.

About the lesson

In my coaching sessions, whether focused on acting or singing, I create an immersive and supportive environment where students can grow as performers and individuals. In my singing lessons, I emphasize the development of the voice as a powerful and versatile instrument. We work on breath control, pitch, tone, and vocal agility, with specific exercises to strengthen the muscles that support vocal performance. I also focus on body alignment and posture, drawing from my background in yoga and movement to help students fully connect their voice to their body. This embodied approach enables them to deliver more authentic and grounded performances, whether on stage or in the studio. I work with students of all levels, from beginners to professional performers, helping them not only refine their vocal technique but also build confidence and stage presence, ensuring they feel prepared and empowered in any performance setting.

When it comes to acting, my teaching goes beyond just line delivery. I encourage my students to fully embody their characters, exploring the emotional, physical, and vocal dimensions of the role. My holistic coaching style connects the body, voice, and emotion, allowing students to create deeply authentic performances. I place a strong emphasis on building confidence—whether it's working on monologues, scene work, or public speaking. In my classes, I guide students to tap into their inner strength, helping them command the space and communicate with conviction and clarity. A key part of my teaching is also the musicality of performance—understanding how rhythm, pacing, and tone can shape a scene or speech and affect the audience on a deeper emotional level.

Ultimately, my goal as a coach is to equip students with tools that transcend performance. The confidence, empathy, and self-awareness gained through acting and singing can transform how individuals engage with the world around them. I believe that the skills learned in performance—whether it’s presence, timing, or emotional connection—can empower students in all aspects of life. Whether preparing for an audition, enhancing public speaking skills, or simply building self-confidence, I’m passionate about guiding students on a journey of personal and artistic growth.

Phoebe’s been a great teacher so far! Loving that we pick songs we both like to sing in lessons, rather than too many technical exercises. She’s also doesn’t get too bogged down with precision on notes or technique, preferring to stay focused on ensuring that a story is told through performance, which suits my style and interests.

I was “confident” about the idea of “performing” before, but it was a very narrow, bravado-filled kind of confidence. The last few months have improved my range and made that confidence more subtle, as I have been slowly improving the strength of my voice whilst also learning to deliver songs with more varied perspectives.

Obviously, it’s a forever job, still a long way to go, but I can feel the positive effects of the lessons.
