About Lea

Hello! My name is Lea. I'm originally from Slovenia but currently based in London. I'm 28 years old and have been in the dance industry since I was 6 years old. I started teaching in a dance school in Slovenia when I was 15 and held workshops there very often. I moved to London to continue my career professionally and graduated with first BA Hons Degree in Performing Arts. For the past five years I was performing with other artists from different art forms - from dance companies, installations, music, fashion and film and really enjoyed the input and growth we put in together, realising that working with other people is rewarding, liberating and very much needed to create a good artwork. It challenges your perceptions and beliefs which I really value. I enjoy creating my own movement vocabulary which allows me to express and share this research with others. I want my students to explore individuality and confidence while staying healthy and fit through being creative. Creativity is such an important part of our lives and I wish to bring this back to anyone that feels the desire of experiencing it but maybe isn’t sure where to start. I have been researching my own movement for a very long time because I enjoy being creative, experimental, curious and independent in some way. Movement brings me freedom and I enjoy sharing it with others. I wish to be another artist that chooses to create better environments in the art industry and want to include everyone in it. I would like to contribute to a healthier and kinder approach towards ourselves.

About the lesson

Lea mainly brings together variety of contemporary dance techniques, however, she tries to move away from labelling the movement into a particular style. She aims to play, research and expand physical and cognitive possibilities, starting with leading the body and mind into a present state through short visualisation. The lesson continues with a short set of exercises that aim to open the body to available and alert state. There will be led improvisation tasks that allow the individual to understand the qualities within their own research and choices. Lea explores the diversity of movement qualities, such as working with the contrast of the conscious separation and isolation of body parts, and totality of the whole body as well as allowing fluidity and spirals to be broken with sudden dynamic changes or pauses that might be inspired in the circumstance, musicality or playfulness that triggers us in the moment. There is also a possibility of learning a short sequence that will be researched with different given qualities through the participants’ own interpretation. The participants are encouraged to be curious and approach the movement in a versatile and androgynous way. With her lesson, she wishes to bring each individual more confidence to their uniqueness, broader perspective to movement choices and artistic individuality. The length of lessons depend on the individual request. My individual lessons are open to all levels and ages. I also encourage the individuals to communicate the preferences of the lesson structure, if desired.
