Find out more about Guilherme

  • When did you first develop a passion for music and your favorite instrument?

I developed my passion for music as a teenager, around the age of 13, when I became deeply fascinated by the guitar and the idea of becoming a professional musician. From that moment on, it wasn’t just a hobby — it became a life direction, music was always present, and eventually I fully committed to it. The guitar became my main voice for expression.
  • Is there a particular type of music or artist that you listen to on a loop without it driving you crazy?

Yes — I can listen to jazz and Brazilian music endlessly without getting tired. Artists like Tom Jobim, João Gilberto, and also great jazz musicians like John Coltrane or Bill Evans are always part of my listening routine. This kind of music has so much depth that every time you listen, you discover something new.
  • Explain to us the most difficult or riveting course you could personally give to a student of music.

One of the most challenging and rewarding topics I teach is advanced harmony and improvisation, especially through pieces like Giant Steps by John Coltrane. It’s a great way to explore complex harmonic movement, voice leading, and melodic thinking. This kind of work pushes students to really understand the structure behind the music, not just play notes.
  • What do you think is the most complicated instrument to master and why?

I believe every instrument has its own challenges, but the guitar is particularly complex because of its visual and physical layout. The same note can be played in multiple places, which requires a deep understanding of the fretboard. Beyond technique, mastering the guitar also involves developing a strong sense of harmony and musical language.
  • What are your keys to success?

Consistency, curiosity, and resilience. My path was not linear — I had to balance different careers, overcome personal and emotional challenges, and rebuild my musical journey more than once. What kept me going was the commitment to keep learning and improving, even in difficult circumstances.
  • Name three musicians you dream of meeting in your favourite bar in the early hours of the morning. Explain why.

I would say Tom Jobim, Pasquale Grasso, and Wes Montgomery.

Tom Jobim for his harmonic sophistication and his fundamental role in shaping Brazilian music as we know it today.

Pasquale Grasso for his incredible technique and deep understanding of jazz language on the guitar — he represents a level of mastery that is truly inspiring.

Wes Montgomery for his unique sound, phrasing, and the way he brought such warmth and musicality to the instrument.

I believe that kind of conversation would be both inspiring and unforgettable.
  • Provide a valuable anecdote related to music or your days at music school.

During my studies, I was always balancing multiple responsibilities — academic work, teaching, and personal life — which made it difficult to dedicate as much time to practice as I wanted. At the time, I felt like I wasn’t progressing as I should.

Looking back, I realize that even in those conditions, I was building a very strong musical foundation. That experience taught me that progress is not always visible in the short term, but consistency over time really matters
  • What are the little touches that make you a Superprof in music?

I believe what sets me apart is the combination of real-world musical experience and a deep understanding of harmony and improvisation.

I don’t just teach what to play — I help students understand why things work, so they can develop their own musical voice. I also adapt my teaching to each student’s reality, goals, and pace, creating a more personal and effective learning experience.
