About Susan
Susan Murphy is an educator and artist who has spent nearly 30 years teaching theater, acting, and performance both privately and on the secondary level in the Jersey City Public Schools. In the decades since having completed her BFA at New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts, Susan has divided her time between the stage and the classroom, developing an approach to arts training that relied on the reciprocity of both. In 2012, she received a Master's in Education at Saint Peter’s University, deepening her experience of her dual vocation. As a performer, Susan has worked on the stage and in music since the age of 10, appearing in productions ranging from traditional musical theater to literary adaptations, from sketch comedy to cabaret to experimental performance and dance. As a writer and producer of her own work, she has sought to blur the boundaries of music and theater to create “performance memoir.” She has numerous musical recordings to her credit, both as a solo vocalist and a backup singer, and has worked on both the small and large screen. She is currently in development with a film that she adapted from her own stage play, and she continues to perform her solo music act in spaces throughout New York City.
