About Jonah
I have a bachelor of screen and media from Collarts, work professionally as a videographer for tech giant Bosch, and write and direct my own narrative films independently, so I pride myself on having experience in multiple facets of the industry. My screenplays have also won awards at competitions, and writing is a particular area of passion for me. I'm also a rabid cinephile, and I try to incorporate the works of the cinematic masters into my lessons - inspiration is incredibly crucial to this difficult but rewarding occupation.
Filmmaking is my life's passion and reason for being, and I love to pass on my knowledge to others. All you need to have to be a great filmmaker is curiosity and a perspective, and once you've learnt the rules and concepts of the art form, there is nothing standing between you and your cinematic masterpiece!

My lessons will cover the basics of filmmaking; the process of developing your ideas into a screenplay, organising a shoot, executing in production, and bringing your project to completion in the editing room.
I recommend my lessons for those at the beginning of their journey, or those seeking to refine their fundamental understandings of filmmaking technique. I also recommend my lessons to VCE students studying media; having achieved a 92.15 ATAR in 2019, I'm also deeply familiar with the VCE system and how best to maximise your scores.
Areas that we can focus on include:
- The basics of cinematography (lighting, composition, camera operation)
- Screenwriting (idea development, script formatting, redrafting)
- Directing (breaking down a script, storyboarding, creating briefs, honing your film's cinematic language)
- Producing (raising a budget, organising a shoot, scheduling etc.)
- Working with actors (rehearsals, improvisation, communicating on set)
- Editing (DaVinci Resolve or Adobe Premiere Pro)
- Colour grading (DaVinci Resolve)
- Film analysis (writing essays, breaking down scenes)
