About Mary
In high school I took AP/Honors English Language and AP/Honors English Literature, along with two Teacher's Aide elective classes where I edited/graded student assignments and lessons. In these electives, I answered students' questions and conducted class projects and activities. I was a member of several related clubs such as Writers Circle, Academic League, and Poetry Out Loud. I tutored in a specific after-school program, and took on several projects outside of school with tutoring as well. My plan is to major in English/Linguistics at UWLX, potentially with a minor in Creative Writing, so that I can either become an English teacher or an official publishing editor.

Editing and teaching are my sharpest skills that I plan on utilizing when I major in English/Linguistics at UWLX. Helping students excel in their language skills would not only involve standard spelling/grammar/essay structure lessons, but also personal insight. I would like to teach students how to explore their own creativity and voice, so that they can learn to *enjoy* writing and feel confident doing it! With editing their essays and other written works, rather than simply scratching their papers with loads of red pen and handing it back, I would like to offer them productive feedback and work through it step by step with them, so that they truly understand the processes of professional writing.
