My Approach to Tutoring:
As a psychology graduate, I bring a unique approach to teaching maths, using a structured learning approach that is informed by a deep understanding of how students learn best.
My methods include:
• Individualised Learning Plans: I assess each student's strengths, weaknesses, and learning styles to tailor lessons that address their specific needs. My lessons are customised for maximum engagement and progress.
• Conceptual Understanding: I emphasise the importance of understanding the "why" behind mathematical concepts, rather than just memorising formulas. This helps students build a solid foundation and boosts their confidence in problem-solving.
• Interactive and Engaging Sessions: I use real-world examples, visual aids, and problem-solving exercises to make lessons engaging and practical, ensuring that students can apply maths in everyday situations.
• Patience and Encouragement: With a background in psychology, I am especially mindful of reducing math anxiety and building confidence through positive reinforcement and a patient teaching style.
Typical Lesson Length:
My lessons typically last 60 minutes and consist of:
25 minutes work ---- 5 minute break ---- 25 minutes work ---- 5 minute review
Although this can be adjusted depending on the student's needs or preferences. Each session includes a mix of explanation, practice problems, and review to solidify understanding. We will also focus on exam techniques as needed.
My Qualifications and Experience:
My degree in psychology has given me a deep understanding of cognitive processes, learning difficulties, and how to build positive learning habits. I have experience tutoring GCSE maths to a wide range of students, including both adults and children. My past students have seen significant improvements in their grades and confidence in maths.
Who the Lessons Are For:
I specialise in GCSE maths, but I am also open to teaching at different levels for students who may need help catching up or building fundamental skills.
