About Lucy

Hello!

I am a graduate of the University of Auckland with a Bachelor of Science in Nutrition and a Postgraduate Diploma in Public Health with distinction.

Now that I have entered the workforce I have realised that educating young people is one of my real passions. I was lucky to attend a high-school with many resources and engaging teachers. I know not every young person has these opportunities so I want to pay it forward.

Let me help you or your child gain confidence and enjoy learning!

About the lesson

I have tutored a range of students over the past 3 years. From this I've found it is best for lessons to run parallel with which topics my students are currently learning in class. This way our sessions can focus on consolidating concepts rather than introducing completely new ideas.

My aim in our first lesson is to make my students feel comfortable telling me what they are struggling with. I want my students be able to ask questions and say when they need me to repeat a concept.

My lessons are 1hr for NCEA level 2-3 students studying chemistry and/or biology. I am confident teaching students who are struggling with the subject or are aiming for the highest grade.

Students interested in a career in the health system may also enjoy having me as a tutor.

Perfect! One of the strengths is how she uses the digital whiteboard to thoroughly explain everything in steps and to visuals show the working. A massive strength is also her lovely personality:)

My first lesson with Chelsea was a pleasure. She was very keen to learn and was very engaged during the lesson. We covered how to name organic compounds and the types of organic compounds in this paper. I will send through some practice questions for Chelsea to complete too. I am looking forward to our next lesson on isomers :)

Doing some practice questions is important to consolidate this learning. I have sent some through via email, which I am happy to mark when Katie has completed them.
