About Rachel
Hi, I'm Rachel Capes!
I have an Early Childhood Degree and a Master's in Literacy. I spent 12 amazing years teaching 4th and 5th graders, and Kindergarten SPED in public schools. I even got to be a math coach!
Now, I homeschool my four wonderful kids. One is gifted, two are right where they should be, and one has a learning disability. This time at home has given me a deeper understanding of all learning styles.
I believe learning should be hands-on and fun! Kids should be excited about math and reading.
In math, we use manipulatives, drawing, and algorithms to make learning engaging. When we meet more than once, kids get to share how they solved problems and explain their thinking.
In reading, we dive into books, discuss vocabulary, explore literary elements, analyze characters and plots, and make predictions. Everyone gets to share their thoughts and opinions while respecting others'.
I love to read, be outdoors with my kids, and this year we're learning to garden together.
I also teach World History and Geography at an accredited homeschool group.

Hello! I'm Rachel, a passionate educator with 12 years of experience in public school, now a homeschooling mom to four amazing kids. I also teach high school World History and Geography at an accredited homeschool program and offer personalized online tutoring.
Having a daughter who has struggled with reading and spelling, I discovered the magic of the Orton-Gillingham approach. It's been a game-changer for her, and now I use it to help kids of all ages conquer spelling challenges. Even those in Middle School
I absolutely love reading and sharing that joy with my students. We will explore novels together, talk about vocabulary and literary elements, analyze characters and plots, and make predictions.
