About Nic

In 4th grade, I started the Hairgrove Elementary school news paper. No other elementary student in the whole school district had done that before. In middle school, I was placed in the Horizons program for Language Arts. High school was a continuation of excellence in reading and writing. I made 5's on my AP English tests and was award AP English Student of the Year my senior year. After graduation, I trained to become an AVID tutor at Truitt Middle School. My students were all able to get high scores on the standardized tests.

In my adult career, I have ghost written multiple e-books, blog articles, and ad-copy for e-commerce clients. I attend the University of Texas and I am majoring in technical writing.

I have an associates degree in Paralegal Studies. As a paralegal, I drafted legal documents, proofread documents, and adhered to the court's formatting requirements.

My bookshelf is overflowing. I love teaching reading because it opens the mind to new ideas and empowers students to independently explore books.

About the lesson

About my lessons:

- We discuss the assignment or the objective
- We utilize the Socratic method during sessions - We share a dialogue in which I lead by presenting in-depth questions. Students are able to reply by posing their own questions. The lesson continues until the topic has been fully discussed without me, the teacher, revealing answers up front. Hands on, active participation is fun and lessons will be easier to remember and apply.
- I enjoy making lessons fun and incorporate topics such as psychology, current events (no polarizing topics), history, and, of course, topics that students want to talk about.\
- I teach K -12th grade as well as college writing.
- I teach ESL students.
- A typical lesson plan will involve replying to a short prompt to warm up. We discuss goals and objectives, and we practice achieving those goals as a team.
