About Serena

I have loved English for as long as I can remember, not just as a subject, but as a way of understanding people. Stories, words, and the way we express ourselves have always fascinated me. I went on to study English and Psychology (BA, cum laude) and later completed my PGCE in English because I realized that what I love even more than literature itself is helping others understand it.

Teaching, for me, is deeply personal. I know what it feels like to sit in a classroom and doubt your own abilities. I also know how powerful it is when someone explains something in a way that finally makes it click. That moment, when a student’s face changes because they get it, is why I teach.

I am warm, patient, and structured. I care about my students as individuals, not just as marks on a page. I love helping learners find their voice, gain confidence in their writing, and realize they are far more capable than they thought.

English is not just about essays and exams. It is about confidence, expression, and understanding the world, and I genuinely love guiding students through that journey.

About the lesson

I offer specialised English lessons focused primarily on high school learners (Grades 7–12) as well as English as a Second Language (ESL) students of all ages. My lessons support learners with essay writing, literature analysis, language structures, exam preparation, comprehension skills, and academic writing.

My approach is structured, rigorous, and highly personalised. With a BA in English and Psychology (cum laude) and a PGCE in English, I combine strong subject expertise with insight into how students learn best. I focus on building deep understanding rather than memorisation, helping students develop critical thinking, analytical skills, and confident written and verbal expression.

For ESL students, I emphasise practical communication, vocabulary expansion, grammar accuracy, pronunciation, and fluency. Lessons are interactive, supportive, and adapted to each learner’s pace and goals.

In a typical lesson, students can expect clear explanations, guided practice, constructive feedback, and targeted exercises designed to strengthen weaker areas. I teach in English and am proficient in adapting language for varying fluency levels.

My lessons are ideal for high school learners preparing for exams, students struggling with writing and literature, and ESL learners seeking confidence and fluency in academic or everyday English.
