About David

Hi! I’m David, and I’m a friendly EFL tutor with 30+ years’ experience. I teach all levels of general English for adults, for beginners, intermediate and advanced users. I enjoy teaching, I’m enthusiastic about my language and I’m keen to help you perform better in English. I have the RSA DELTA (TEFL), a 1-year state Certificate in Education to teach EFL/ESOL to Adults, and an Oxford University English degree. I’ve been a Cambridge oral test examiner for all levels. I have a neutral, standard, educated English accent. I taught for many years at London universities (Goldsmiths, SOAS, University of the Arts), and trained many language teachers (Goldsmiths, Instituto Cervantes). About the lesson

My online lessons focus on grammar accuracy, better pronunciation and extending your vocabulary, all in a patient, helpful way. I adapt to what & how the student/s request to study or practise, balanced with what my training and experience suggest to me will best help their performance, skills and confidence. Unlike many EFL teachers, I will correct your errors, in a positive, tactful way, to help you polish your language performance. I can help you achieve a more fluent and correct English, and to understand native-speakers better. A typical 1-hour lesson starts with 5 minutes’ conversation, followed by tactful feedback to correct errors or suggest other expressions. Then we move on to the main focus of the lesson which could be revising a grammar area, extending vocabulary in your specialist area or working on an exam focus; a report, emails or university assignment where you had language doubts; or it could be a YouTube clip or online news feature which we previously agreed to focus on. If you have to give a presentation, we can rehearse that. I may also revise with you language points from previous lessons. In the last 5 minutes I will check with you key words or expressions that arose today, and we agree objectives for the next session. If you wish I can scan and email you my notes from today’s session.
