About Liam
I’m a friendly and approachable tutor, as well as a proud dad of two boys, which means I understand the importance of patience, encouragement, and creating a positive learning environment. I believe strongly in building students’ confidence and making them feel comfortable asking questions, no matter their starting point.
I have experience teaching across a range of settings, including mainstream high school, a specialist support school, and college. This has allowed me to develop a strong ability to adapt my teaching to suit different needs, abilities, and learning styles, ensuring every student feels supported and challenged appropriately.
Outside of teaching, I’m very active and enjoy football, hockey, and running — I’m currently training for a marathon, which reflects my commitment, resilience, and goal-driven mindset. I also enjoy going to the cinema, which ties into my interest in storytelling and communication — key skills that I bring into my English teaching.
Students and parents often find me easy to talk to, supportive, and genuinely invested in helping learners succeed. I aim to create a relaxed but focused atmosphere where students feel motivated, understood, and ready to improve.

My tutoring is highly adaptable and student-centred, with a strong focus on differentiation to meet a wide range of abilities and learning needs. I ensure that each lesson is carefully tailored, whether a student requires additional support to build foundations or further challenge to reach higher grades.
Teaching methodology and techniques
I use a structured “I, We, You” approach in my lessons:
I (model): I demonstrate high-quality responses, breaking down key skills and thought processes
We (guided practice): We work through examples together, allowing students to develop confidence with support
You (independent practice): Students apply their skills independently, helping to build exam readiness
To support all learners, I incorporate scaffolding techniques such as sentence starters, writing frames, and step-by-step question breakdowns. As students grow in confidence, this support is gradually removed to promote independence.
I also use a range of engaging resources to maintain motivation and deepen understanding, including:
Carefully selected extracts and texts
Video clips to support analysis and discussion
Interactive online quizzes to reinforce learning and assess progress
This varied approach ensures lessons remain engaging while catering to different learning styles and keeping students actively involved.
Lesson length
Lessons are typically 60 minutes, allowing time for explanation, practice, and feedback.
