About Mike

I am a TEFL and Trinity TESOL qualified teacher and a native speaker of English and I've been teaching English to adults since 2009. Why do I teach? Because I love it! It's as simple as that. I can share what I have, see people growing, discovering, improving their English and becoming inspired to change something in their lives. It's a beautiful experience to watch people coming together, creating new friendships and learning, not just from me but from each other. It's a great joy to learn about your lives, culture, beliefs, values, work, home and hobbies, looking at the past present and future. I design each term around your needs, ensuring that the tasks I set are challenging and can be used in real life situations, to help improve your English in the ways needed most. I put the emphasis on fun, as this is a great way to learn. Along with teaching English, my other great passion is teaching singing and I run regular groups 'Harmonies of the Heart' in London and Chorleywood, which are open to anyone who would like to experience the joy of singing together in English and other languages. Singing is a great way to slow down and focus on the sounds of English, especially the vowel sounds. My inspirations are people, singing, being in love and immersed in enthusiasm and joy!

About the lesson

Deepen and expand your English language skills from the comfort of your own home: 20x1.5 hour live interactive online sessions. Grammar and conversation immersion at your level. Speaking, listening, reading and writing. Loads of new vocabulary, social expressions and fun. Lessons tailored to your specific needs. Small group work to practise language skills. Individual Grammar and pronunciation feedback. Recordings available after the session. Join this international community of students. Classes take place in a friendly online environment which resembles a classroom with all the same facilities available to you AND MORE.... Most people attend two classes per week for the ten-week term although three lessons are possible for those students that are in between levels. Grammar classes focus on a few grammar points which means that you are given the opportunity to learn and deepen the language in relation to speaking, listening, reading and writing. There is a lot of new vocabulary to learn as well as the most common ways of communicating using formal and informal English as well as idioms, phrasal verbs and expressions. Some lessons look at common situations in your everyday life and some look at how to achieve Cambridge qualifications, PET (Intermediate) and FCE/CAE & CPE (Upper Intermediate/Advanced). Lessons are tailored around your specific needs with an emphasis on improving social skills whilst having a great time and meeting new people. There is feedback at the end of most lessons and pronunciation practice as well and you are encouraged to buy specific books to deepen your skills even further. The more work you do outside the lessons, the faster you will improve and opportunities are given to connect with other students to practise even further. In addition, you will be given a replay video of the sessions, so you can playback the lesson, practise the exercises and fix your common issues. How the Classes Work We connect through a simple online platform called Zoom, downloadable for free from here. It can be downloaded to your PC, laptop, tablet and even your phone, so you can literally join from wherever you are. It is compatible with all operating systems and just requires a good internet connection, microphone headset and webcam. As soon as you have subscribed and paid, you will be sent a link to use before each lesson. Just click on the link and you will be taken to the classroom. It’s really as simple as that!
