About Umut

With an undergraduate and postgraduate degree in Criminology, alongside a Postgraduate Certificate in Education (PGCE) specialising in English, I bring a diverse and well-rounded perspective to teaching. I have served as a teaching assistant, a teacher in foundation learning and as a curriculum lead in Foundation Learning. Currently, I am working as an English language assistant in a school in Barcelona, helping students enhance their English skills through immersive learning.

My varied teaching experience equips me to handle students of all levels and backgrounds, from those preparing for exams like GCSE English to adults aiming to improve their conversational and professional English. I create engaging, personalised lessons that focus on building confidence and understanding in all aspects of the language—whether it’s grammar, writing or speaking.

I am committed to fostering a supportive and encouraging learning environment, helping students to reach their fullest potential. My professional background in both education and leadership ensures that I deliver structured, goal-oriented lessons that yield results.

About the lesson

As a native English speaker from London with 3 years of experience, my approach is highly interactive and personalised to each student’s needs. I focus on building confidence through conversation practice, improving grammar and expanding vocabulary. My lessons are designed to be practical and engaging, using real-life examples to make the learning process enjoyable and relevant.

I use a mix of speaking exercises, listening activities, reading comprehension and writing tasks, tailored to the student's learning style. Whether preparing for exams like GCSE or simply improving fluency, my goal is to make learning English a fun and rewarding experience. I also incorporate regular feedback and assessments to track progress and adjust lesson plans as needed.

Typically, lessons last for 1 hour, but I can adjust the length based on the student’s preferences and needs.

I have 3 years of experience teaching English to both individuals and groups, focusing on learners of all levels—from beginners to advanced speakers. My experience includes working with students aged 12-18, preparing them for exams like GCSE English, as well as adult learners looking to improve their everyday communication or professional English skills.
