About Leke

As a trained Maths and Humanities subject leader and former LSA, my tailored IEP (Individual Educational Plan) ensures a consistent track of progress via regular consolidation. An end of year report also creates a continuous flow for your child’s learning, leading up to the next academic year. Both students and parents/carers are equally informed about the end of year progress and next steps. It always gives me immense joy to share my knowledge and deepen one’s understanding in the process.

About the lesson

Teaching mathematics should be fun, innovative, collaborative, and rigorous! As a qualified class teacher with over a decade of experience in both mainstream education and private tuition, my approach to teaching maths is centred on breaking down complex concepts into manageable, digestible parts. I focus on making advanced topics accessible by guiding students through every step, ensuring they not only understand the material but can confidently apply it to the types of questions they will encounter in their maths exams. My interactive whiteboard methods have been proven to foster maximum engagement and application, making abstract concepts tangible and easier to grasp. Aligned with the National Curriculum, my maths lessons cover everything from number sense and basic arithmetic to more advanced areas such as algebra, geometry, fractions, and statistics. The curriculum’s focus on problem-solving, reasoning, and fluency is at the heart of my teaching. I ensure that each student develops a deep understanding of mathematical principles, emphasising how to break down problems into smaller, solvable steps and apply their skills to a variety of real-world contexts. This approach not only helps them succeed in their assessments but also builds a strong foundation for future learning. I begin by identifying where students feel confident and where they may struggle. This enables me to create a supportive, open environment where they feel comfortable discussing their strengths and areas for improvement. By building confidence from the outset, I encourage students to take an active role in their learning. I also administer a pre-prepared test covering a range of topics within the curriculum to assess their current level of understanding and tailor a medium-term plan that addresses their specific needs and challenges. My teaching extends beyond simply preparing students for exams. I break down complex mathematical concepts, from fractions to algebraic equations, into smaller, manageable parts. This ensures that students not only memorise formulas but also develop a genuine understanding of the underlying principles. I also emphasise the importance of mathematical reasoning and problem-solving, helping students build the skills needed to tackle unfamiliar problems with confidence. Through years of experience, including my time as a Read Write Inc. teacher and leading subjects such as Music and Handwriting, I have refined my ability to make the curriculum relatable and engaging, particularly for students who may find maths challenging. My CPD training, including safeguarding and internet safety, also helps me create a safe and supportive learning environment where students can thrive. Ultimately, my goal is to ensure students are not just exam-ready but also mathematically confident and capable. By breaking down concepts, fostering a deeper understanding of the subject, and delivering engaging, practical lessons, I ensure that students are well-prepared for their maths assessments and equipped with the skills to apply their knowledge in real-world situations.
