About Alex
Hi, I’m Alex! I’m a qualified primary school teacher currently teaching a mixed Year 1 and Year 2 class. I have classroom experience and particularly enjoy working with children in KS1, helping them to build strong foundations and grow in confidence.
I am also an experienced phonics teacher and phonics lead, with a strong understanding of early reading and how to support children at different stages of their learning. My love of teaching has also taken me overseas, where I have volunteered teaching children in Madagascar.
As a teacher, I’m patient, positive and approachable. Building good relationships with children is really important to me and I aim to create an environment where they feel comfortable having a go, making mistakes and celebrating their progress.
I have experience working with children with a wide range of abilities and additional needs and understand that every child learns differently. My approach is always encouraging, supportive and adapted to the individual child.

My lessons are friendly, engaging and tailored to each individual child. As a current KS1 teacher with experience teaching and leading phonics, I have a strong understanding of how children develop their early reading and writing skills and how to support them when they find these areas tricky.
I offer support across phonics, early reading, writing and maths, with sessions adapted to focus on the areas your child needs most. Whether they need some extra help to close gaps, more practice with something they are finding difficult or simply a confidence boost, I will plan activities around their individual needs.
Lessons are interactive and encouraging, using a mixture of games, practical activities, discussion and focused learning rather than simply completing worksheets. I aim to make sessions feel positive and manageable, particularly for younger children who have already had a busy day at school!
I have experience teaching across KS1, supporting children with a wide range of abilities and additional needs and leading the teaching of phonics. I am confident in identifying gaps in children's phonics knowledge and providing targeted support to help develop fluency, reading confidence and a genuine enjoyment of learning.
Most importantly, I want children to finish each session feeling successful and proud of what they have achieved.

Details
My standard rate is £25 per hour for online 1:1 tuition.
For younger children, I also offer 30-minute sessions for £15.
These shorter sessions can be ideal for KS1 children, allowing us to focus on a specific area while keeping learning engaging and manageable after a busy school day. All sessions are individually planned and tailored to your child’s needs, with any resources required included in the price.
