About Sammy

I have taught classes of about 30 students, small targeted groups of 3 - 8 students, and also taught students on a 1 to 1 basis.
I have taught students who are above, or of average academic ability.

I have also taught SEN (Special Educational Needs) students . These students have had various learning disabilities such as ASD, Aspergers Syndrome, ADHD, Schizophrenia, mild Dyslexia, and Social Emotional Behavioural Difficulties.
My success stories with all of the children - whether of average academic abilities or those being taught with SEN requirements, have gone before me within the school setting. This on one occasion, resulted in my being recommended to a school's Deputy Principal who was approaching University Lecturers of Teacher Training, for recommendations of any practitioners who were proven to be ideal candidates for a SEN teaching position in their school. My name was the only one given, and after a brief interview, I was given the job!
I have achieved the respect and trust of students, who were several years in to their school careers, but who were unruly, disruptive, disrespectful, and who were unwilling to adapt to the authority of any new members of staff that were sent to try new ways of reaching out to them. I very quickly obtained a very mutual respect with these students, and under my supervision and teaching, they went on to produce some wonderful school work and behaviour. I was absolutely delighted to be the head of such a beautiful transformation. I saw the children develop a strong enthusiasm for learning and their personal progression.
It was so very rewarding.
Just as rewarding was the joy on the parents faces when I would approach them at the end of the school day, and praise their excited children for such outstanding behaviour and work. To see the parents and their children so joyous together, at such a long awaited success, will stay with me forever.

About the lesson

Life is a journey, and everyone has the right to learn and achieve their very best.
For some, the learning does not come as easily, but all that is needed in that circumstance is the right person to patiently and professionally, nurture learning until it becomes second nature.
I am an approachable tutor, who loves to teach with a great sense of enthusiasm, encouragement, and fun.
I come with experience in both mainstream education, and SEN education, and I am also up to date DBS Certified.
I am experienced in identifying an individual student's abilities, strengths, and weaknesses, and am experienced in structuring my teachings to be tailored to the individual I am working with.
I am passionate about working with my students to ensure that they each gain the self belief and enthusiasm, to strive towards, and achieve their personal best.
I have an innate ability to reach through to my students, on their own level, which makes my teachings very targeted and specific to each student's requirements.
I am honest, reliable, and trustworthy. This I find is something my students pick up on quickly, and form mutually, trusting, professional,teacher/student relationships on.
I believe through personal experience, that it's crucial for students to be confident, relaxed, and happy with their teacher. This allows a better focus on the teachings in hand. Besides - I had teachers when I was a young girl in school, whose demeanour was so terrifying that I was either trying to avoid their stare, or afraid to ask them for help when I needed it. Not a good basis for learning!

Details

Rates vary depending on the level of support required, and the cost of any prior agreed travelling (at the student's request) for my attending a student's home or workplace, in person.

Rates will also vary if upon the student's request, I am asked to provide a more intense course load of paperwork/tasks for completion in their own time (extra homework), and further rates are added for marking requests of such work.
