About Clive

I have taught Latin at KS3, GCSE and AS/A2 level throughout my career, and have taught Classical Greek at GCSE and AS/A2 level on many occasions. In addition, I have worked for the Classics Academy, an organisation which provided Latin tuition for Gifted and Talented students in schools which had no provision for Classics. I have been Head of Classics in two Inner London schools, and I am an examiner in Latin and Greek for OCR. I have also been a private tutor for the past twelve years, teaching Latin and Greek at Common Entrance, Scholarship, GCSE, AS/A2 level, Pre-U and Oxbridge Entrance, and have also taught one boy in his first year of a Classics degree. About the lesson

Lessons will take place from my home in Belvedere, Kent, via Zoom. The first lesson will mostly be taken up assessing the student’s previous experience of learning Latin and their attitude towards learning a language generally. Some testing of their ability will follow, as well as an introduction to suggested text books which might form the basis of future teaching and learning.

Our youngest son was disengaged from his Latin lessons and failing. Badly. He was in the lowest set. After a few months with Clive, he was doing better than some children in the top set. That motivated him! How did Clive do it? I have no idea! If I did, I would have done it myself, but we and other families we know will be eternally grateful.

Clive tutored Harry for his latin common entrance. Prior to working with Clive, Harrys test results were poor. His latin improved significantly and, despite not carrying on with the subject, Harry can remember more of the latin words than many of his colleagues who carried on studying it.
