About Sarah

I am passionate about teaching. I really like to connect with my students so try to find a common interest. Some of the things I like to do include art, sport and gaming. I enjoy drawing and painting. I like team sports; I have played football and netball with local teams. I like stand up paddle boarding. I like to game on the x-box or pc. Some of my favourite games include Fifa, Minecraft and various Roblox games. I'm grateful for my autistic son, as he and I game together often and he has taught me a lot about special needs. With such a varied interest and wealth of experience, I can associate with most young people, make them feel comfortable and break down barriers to learning.

About the lesson

I like to engage students by learning their passions and interests. This then enables me to personalise and differentiate their learning. My experience of working with children began prior to becoming a teacher; I was an au pair. I also worked at a summer camp overseas. Since qualifying as a teacher, I have had experience of teaching all ages from 8 up to 18 years. I've been a class teacher, cover teacher, class sponsor and mentor. I have taught all subjects within the English curriculum. I also taught as an exchange teacher in Florida for 4 years. Currently, and for the past 7 years I have been teaching KS3 and KS4 Mathematics. In addition to teaching, I have worked with vulnerable young people in a supportive, social emotional mental health context. My personal experience as a mother has broadened my knowledge and understanding of SEN greatly. My son is autistic with a PDA profile, has ADHD and experienced childhood trauma. His complex profile has provided me with lived experience of the challenges faced by neurodiverse young people with disabilities and additional needs.
