About Stephanie

I'm Stephanie Berwick, and I've spent 20 years turning financial chaos into clarity for companies ranging from startups to established enterprises. My career has taken me from Financial Analyst to Senior Accountant to Business Development VP across finance and technology - but my most valuable education came from the last three years running my own business. Building a company from scratch taught me what they don't cover in finance textbooks: how to bootstrap on a tight budget, manage cash flow when revenue is unpredictable, negotiate with vendors, pitch investors, and make every dollar count. I've raised capital, secured 300+ retail partnerships, and learned to speak both the language of spreadsheets and the language of storytelling. I know firsthand how overwhelming it feels to stare at a pile of receipts, a blank Excel sheet, or an investor pitch deck that needs to be ready by Friday. I've been there - stressed, confused, wondering if I'm doing it right. That's exactly why I love teaching. I remember what it's like to not know, and I'm patient with the learning process. My teaching philosophy is simple: finance isn't about being naturally "good with numbers" - it's about understanding the tools and building the right habits. I break down complex concepts into manageable steps, use real examples from actual businesses, and create a judgment-free space where questions are always welcome. Whether you're launching your first business, trying to get your books in order for tax season, or preparing to pitch investors, I'm here to help you build the financial confidence that every successful entrepreneur needs. Let's make numbers work for you, not against you.

My Teaching Approach

Finance and bookkeeping shouldn’t feel overwhelming. The numbers in your business are meant to help you make decisions, not confuse you.

My approach is patient, practical, and jargon-free. I break down financial concepts into clear, simple steps so you can immediately apply what you learn to your own business. Whether you’re learning bookkeeping from scratch or trying to clean up messy books, the goal is always the same: helping you understand your numbers and feel confident managing them.

Teaching Method & Techniques:

My lessons are based on real-world experience from over 20 years working in finance, accounting, and financial systems.

Whenever possible we work directly with your own business data and systems — your accounting software, spreadsheets, invoices, and expenses — so every session directly improves how your business operates.

Rather than lecturing about theory, I teach by doing. Each session focuses on practical improvements you can implement immediately.

My background includes corporate finance, accounting, ERP systems, and startup operations, so I can help you understand not just how bookkeeping works, but how financial systems support real business decisions.

Typical Lesson Topics:

Bookkeeping & Accounting Foundations:
Setting up or cleaning up your chart of accounts
Categorizing transactions accurately
Reconciling bank and credit card accounts
Understanding profit vs. cash flow
Preparing your books for tax season

QuickBooks & Accounting Software:
QuickBooks setup and best practices
Cleaning up existing QuickBooks files
Understanding financial reports (P&L, balance sheet, cash flow)
Creating simple reporting dashboards
Basic workflows for small business bookkeeping

Financial Organization for Small Businesses:
Building simple financial tracking systems
Understanding revenue, expenses, and margins
Creating basic budgets and forecasts
Improving financial visibility for better decisions

Excel & Google Sheets for Business:
Essential formulas and financial calculations
Pivot tables and reporting dashboards
Budget templates and expense tracking
Sales tracking and forecasting

Sessions are typically 60–90 minutes, and I provide practical follow-up suggestions or exercises so you can continue improving your systems after the lesson.

What Sets Me Apart:

I’m not teaching bookkeeping from a textbook. I’ve spent over two decades working across accounting, corporate finance, financial analysis, and financial systems.

Earlier in my career I worked in corporate finance and accounting roles where I managed financial reporting, reconciliations, and financial analysis in high-volume environments. I later spent 10 years working with enterprise ERP systems, giving me a deep understanding of how financial systems, integrations, and reporting structures actually work.

Most recently I spent three years building and running my own consumer product startup, so I understand firsthand the challenges founders face when managing cash flow, expenses, and financial uncertainty.

Because of that mix of corporate finance and real entrepreneurial experience, I focus on helping business owners simplify their financial systems and gain clarity from their numbers.

Who These Lessons Are For:

Small business owners who want to understand their finances and bookkeeping
Founders who want help setting up or cleaning up their accounting systems
Freelancers and consultants who need to track income, expenses, and profitability
Entrepreneurs who want to understand financial reports and cash flow
Anyone who feels overwhelmed by bookkeeping and wants practical guidance

No prior finance experience is required. Many of my students start with little or no accounting knowledge.

I primarily work with QuickBooks, but I can also help with Xero and spreadsheet-based financial tracking systems.

Details

Teaching lessons through Superprof will entail guidance by me while the student shares their screen generally. There may be times I will share my screen to facilitate the lesson through examples.

If the student decides to engage for professional services, that would be a separate agreement outside of Superprof. Professional services may include hands-on bookkeeping, full QuickBooks setup or cleanup, chart of accounts redesign, financial reporting preparation, or ongoing advisory support. These engagements are billed at $75 per hour (or structured monthly retainers where appropriate) and involve direct work performed by me rather than guided instruction.
