About Dilni
Hello! My name is Dilni, and I’m an English tutor passionate about helping students find confidence and joy in their writing and the interpretation of literature. As an undergraduate student at University of Toronto who has led academic and mental health initiatives, I understand that learning is most effective when students feel supported and inspired. I approach tutoring with patience, empathy, and a strong commitment to helping each student reach their potential. My goal is to help students see English not just as a subject, but as a way to express ideas and perspectives with their own voice through writing. With experience mentoring students of different ages and abilities, I take pride in adapting my teaching to meet individual needs. I aim to make every lesson engaging and enjoyable for my students so they leave not only with stronger writing, but with greater confidence in their ability to think and communicate effectively.

What Is My Teaching Methodology?
As an English tutor, I focus on helping students build confidence in their ability to analyze literature and create their written works. My lessons emphasize critical thinking and the development of their unique, strong writing voice. I use a discussion-based approach, alongside providing structured guidance and feedback to help students understand literary devices, improve essay structure, and clearly express their ideas in writing. I also integrate creative writing exercises to encourage originality and ensure practice. My feedback is detailed and constructive to promote long-term improvement in my students' writing.
What Does My Typical Lesson Plan Look Like?
Each session begins with a short review or discussion to connect the student’s prior knowledge or what they are currently working on at school to the day’s objective. The main part of the lesson focuses on developing the skill of the day, for example, analyzing a passage for literary devices, planning an argument, creating a skeleton of an essay, or refining a thesis statement. Lessons will often include guided writing or paragraph time to work through the process, and understand how the student's writing flows. I conclude each session with feedback and reflection through discussion for continued progress as our sessions progress.
What Sets Me Apart?
As a tutor, the empathy and understanding I bring to each lesson is the foundation I believe students improve upon. My background in mental health advocacy and neuroscience has taught me how deeply learning is tied to confidence and skill-development. As a reading mentor, I have created a supportive environment where students feel heard and encouraged to take academic risks. I aim to make literature feel meaningful and personal, showing students how it connects to their own worlds.
