At each session I have the child read aloud to me so that when they get stuck on a word I can teach them how to sound it out so they’ll know it for future reference. I use flash cards that teach words for the grade level and the next grade up too sometimes, along with lessons on vowel pairs. In addition I use a highly rated video program designed to measurably improve reading skills, working one to one as it set up for in a fun way where they enjoy interacting with me and the materials on the computer screen as they learn.
