About Quinn
As a dedicated pianist and educator with over three years of teaching experience, my musical journey has been driven by a profound love for both classical and jazz piano. My passion for music began in childhood, leading me to formal studies that honed my skills and deepened my appreciation for the piano's expressive potential. This journey has not only shaped me as a performer but also as a teacher, committed to sharing the joy and intricacies of music with my students.
My teaching philosophy centers around the belief that each student has a unique musical voice and learning style. I strive to create a supportive and engaging environment where students feel encouraged to explore and express themselves. By tailoring lessons to individual needs and goals, I ensure that each student progresses at their own pace, whether they are beginners building foundational skills or advanced players seeking to refine their technique and artistry.
In my lessons, I emphasize a balanced approach that combines technical proficiency with musical expression. Students learn essential skills such as sight-reading, rhythm, and finger agility through structured exercises and drills. At the same time, I encourage them to engage deeply with the music, exploring phrasing, dynamics, and improvisation. Outside of teaching, I remain actively involved in the music community, performing in various settings and collaborating with other musicians. A piano lesson with me is designed to be an immersive and enjoyable experience, catering to the unique needs and goals of each student. The lesson begins with an assessment of the student's current skill level and musical interests. This initial understanding helps in tailoring a personalized lesson plan, whether the student is a beginner learning the basics or an advanced player refining their technique.
The structure of the lesson balances technical exercises and musical exploration. We start with warm-up exercises, including scales and finger drills, to develop finger strength and agility. This is followed by a review of previously learned pieces to reinforce retention and progress. New material is introduced in a step-by-step manner, covering essential aspects such as sight-reading, rhythm, and dynamics. For students interested in specific genres, lessons can focus on the intricacies of classical compositions or the improvisational nature of jazz.
A key element of my teaching approach is fostering musical expression and creativity. I encourage students to connect emotionally with the music, exploring phrasing, articulation, and dynamics to bring their performances to life. Improvisation and composition exercises are integrated into the lessons to nurture creativity and a deeper understanding of musical structure. This holistic approach not only enhances technical proficiency but also instills a lifelong passion for music.
