About Peter

I am an engineer based in Bangalore, India. Worked in IT in industry for 23 years. Lived/traveled in US/Europe on IT projects. I have done numerous trainings during my career and has a flair for it. I would like to bring this experience to teach school students Maths. Many students struggle with Maths mainly because of the way it is presented to them and I would like to address this and make the subject more enjoyable for the students. During the last year I have done few maths tutoring assignments for children and have achieved 10 to 20% improvement in their exam marks. Open to group(up to 5) or individual classes.

About the lesson

My focus is to get the concepts correct, help students visualise problems and their solutions. It’s a known fact that many children find maths to be intimidating. I believe children could be brought out of this mindset and their performance improved, if the subject is presented to them in an orderly and cohesive manner. Unlike other subjects, maths is a subject where there is a strong linkage between concepts covered in each grade. In each grade you build up on the concepts learned in the previous years. Without good understanding of concepts learned in previous years students could struggle during next years. I believe teaching should be done keeping this in mind and maintain the continuity to help students come up the learning curve. Another important aspect is that learning maths require developing problem solving and intuitive skills. Teaching is not about giving solutions to maths problems, but to develop the problem solving skills so that students can find their own way out when dealing with new problems. Proper handholding of students need to be done by providing tips and tricks on how to understand, analyse and approach problems to work towards the right solutions. I have reviewed the maths text books from Grade 1 to X and have a good understanding of the topics covered and how they are presented.
