About Alex
I am completing my 50th year in education and I still teach GCSE and A-level full-time at a local school. During my career, I have had a range of jobs, including Head of Science for many years. Since the Pandemic, I have enjoyed teaching students online. You will find me to be supportive and friendly as I always start by building confidence whatever the starting level; never judging you. My particular specialism is A-level Chemistry, but I enjoy teaching all three sciences at GCSE. I also work as an Examiner for GCSE Sciences.
I have had the chance to teach many different students - those aspiring to top Universities, those who simply want to achieve better GCSE levels and those with diverse needs who need extra support accessing the curriculum. I have a degree in Physiology and Biochemistry, PGCE, a Certificate in Teaching English for Specific Purposes and the NPQH (National Professional Qualification for Headteachers.)

I always start by establishing the needs of the student and putting them at ease. This enables me to diagnose how best to support during each lesson and focus on areas for improvement. I teach by presenting the content and checking understanding before moving on to exam-type questions. Due to my lengthy teaching career, I am able to analyse exam question requirements and teach approaches to answering them which will work. In addition, I encourage students to complete work out of class, supported by study skills methods. I am always ready to mark and provide feedback on this work and review it during the next lesson.
