About Alex

Hi, I’m Alex. I’m a medical student who has 5 years of tutoring experience. I moved onto tutoring GCSEs after obtaining nine 9s and an 8 at GCSE. I now take biology, chemistry and maths at a level and obtained 3 A*s at a level (including achieving 99% overall in my A Level Chemistry). I am now a 2nd year medical student at the University of Edinburgh. I achieved a distinction in my 1st year of medical school and received all 4 medical school offers after obtaining a top 1% (3240 b1) score in the UCAT. My experience in tutoring has been a rewarding role, mostly freelancing, with some work at an 11+ prep company. This has given me valuable experience with children with different learning needs, from lots of different backgrounds.

About the lesson

My teaching style focuses on the student’s needs. I am happy to help plan and organise revision and create a schedule. I focus on active recall and practice questions to help the student learn as quickly as possible, though the way in which this is done is what works best for each individual. I am happy to teach and deliver content to aid understanding. However, to guarantee an A* there is exam technique required, on top of knowledge. Once the student knows the content, the focus shifts to past papers where I mark in a detailed way to help the students answer with an answer that is correct to the GCSE examiners.
