About Juan

Hi, my name is Juan and I am currently in my final year at UQ studying a Bachelor of Science (Hons) majoring in Synthetic Biology and Bioindustry. Prior to attending the university I used to live in Chile until the age of 12. Following this I moved to the United States where I completed all my secondary studies. During this time I was enrolled in the Dual Enrollment University Program which allowed me to take first-year college courses while I was in 12th Grade alongside Advanced Placement courses. I was also the vice president of the Environmental Science club. During my time in the United States I graduated with the following accolades: - 3.7 Unweighted GPA out of 4.0 - Top 10% of Class - Completed AP Biology - Completed AP Chemistry - Completed AP Calculus AB - Completed AP Statistics - Completed AP Psychology - Completed AP Environmental Science - Completed AP US Macroeconomics - Completed AP Spanish Literature and Language - Completed Dual Enrollment English Literature 1 - Completed Dual Enrollment Psychology of Substance Abuse I have always loved to teach! I am the 4th child in a big family, which meant that I was always the designated tutor for my younger siblings and younger cousins. I have been doing this for close to 6 years now, tutoring my younger sister through all her secondary classes from 9th Grade to 12th Grade alongside many of her friends. Throughout this time I have tutored roughly 25 kids without counting family members and informally tutored others in my classes to improve my own understanding of topics.

About the lesson

I believe that every student has a unique learning style, which means that my approach will always be based on their needs. Some students might benefit from step-by-step explanations while others grasp concepts more effectively by hands-on problem-solving. Guiding students towards independent thinking is the key goal of my lessons. This will be done by encouraging critical reasoning (especially in math subjects), and reinforcing concepts with real-world applications (especially science-based subjects). I am fully fluent in both Spanish and English, meaning that I will be able to provide tutoring services in both languages alongside the ability to also tutor any interested parties into learning Spanish as well. My typical lesson length would be: - Standard session: 1 hour (In person or Remote) - Extended session: 1.5 – 2 hours for in-depth subject review or exam preparation (In person or Remote) - Short session: 30–45 minutes for quick topic clarifications or assignment guidance (Remote) I intend to aim my lessons towards High school students (Year 7–12) needing support in Math, Chemistry, Biology, Physics, or Spanish. I can also assist University students needing help with first-year science courses and beginners to advanced learners in Spanish seeking tutoring in grammar, vocabulary, and conversational fluency. I always attempt to make all learning engaging, approachable, and stress-free, while making sure that the students I tutor build the confidence to tackle challenges independently.
