About Llewellyn Michael
Llewellyn Michael Bates is a Melbourne-based screenwriter and producer who is Australian Academy of Cinema and Television Arts Award-nominated for his short film, Nathan Loves Ricky Martin. He received the 2018 Film Victoria, Screen Australia, AFTRS Diversity funding for his film Fun Times. Winner of the 2018 Screen New South Wales Screenability fund for his film Deluge which recently screened at 2019 Sydney Film Festival and played at the Museum of Contemporary Art Australia. Shortlisted for Cannes main competition and SWSX. He is known for his hard to watch dramas and painfully sad comedies. His unique voice has been cultivated through many years of process and hard work. He is award-winning in both International and Australian film festivals including a nomination for the prestigious Australian Writers Guild, 2019 Monte Miller long format TV award. He was winner 2016 Script Pipeline First Look Project his scripts have been finalists in Scriptapalooza, Sacramento film festival American Screen Writing Conference 2020 TBA. Winner of 2019 Los Angeles Screenplay competition as well as many others. He has had work placement with Princess Pictures and a Feature co-production with China Arch-light. His feature film script Burning Elephant is shortlisted for Sundance Lab. His TV show Taking Sickies has also been shortlisted for Sundance Episodic Makers Lab.
