About Ilya

Hi! My name is Ilya, I come from Russia and currently live and study in Edinburgh. My field of study is Chemical Engineering, which gives me a good understanding and interest in maths and chemistry. I found the passion for teaching in sixth form, when the maths department offered sixth formers a chance to help struggling students in the years below us during our lunch breaks. Helping people understand and see the beauty of a subject that I have a fascination with brings me great pleasure. There's nothing I love more than a student understanding what I am trying to convey, no matter how long it takes them to do so.

About the lesson

In a 1 hour lesson I am ready to go over any questions that you might have, as well as cover topics that you request. Outside of special requests I teach according to the Edexcel Mathematics textbooks, pdf versions of which I will happily share with you to aid your learning. I believe that understanding is the most important part of education, and will take my time to explain something to a student, until they get a complete understanding of the concept, when paired with loads of practice, I believe this method will yield the best results. At the same time, I aim to make studying comfortable for the student, aiming to maintain interest in a subject by not overworking or pushing a student too hard. I also offer support over WhatsApp on request, with exceptions for times when I myself have classes or other commitments.

Ilya tutored me for my A level maths mock and final exam. I was very lost, super behind, and extremely demotivated and confused because my teacher in school was definitely kind of a bully:(
Ilya was extremely patient with me and made me feel super comfortable to ask questions and be honest when I was confused or simply didn’t have the time to complete the assignments me gave me.
He always went above and beyond to make sure I understood and was responsible enough to know my due dates and exams even better than me! It was CRUCIAL because we were always on the same track and moved through, overcoming any challenge I encountered.
He also has a perfect tone! Every class was calm and peaceful which was the perfect foundation to a fruitful class and a successful completion of the course.
I ended up not having to take my A levels (COVID), however Ilya gave me so much motivation, appreciation, and interest in maths! I finally started believing that I could grasp all mathematical concepts and even be at the top of my class.
All this aid Ilya provided me with definitely helps me out in university even today:)
