About Oleksandr

I am a second year University of Oxford student studying Mathematics and Computer Science. I am very passionate about teaching and actively consider it to be my career. I already have solid experience in private and class tutoring, and quite a few student successes! I am looking forward to discovering different aspects of mathematics with my new students!

About the lesson

I am an experienced mathematics tutor who is willing to push students beyond what they think are their boundaries. For half a year, I was a volunteer tutor where I taught mathematics in one-to-one lessons, and over the summer I was busy teaching at the International Summer School For Teens (ISSFT). My lessons are usually an hour long and student-specific. I make sure that the content I teach is well understood before proceeding further. Usually, at the start of the lesson I would either explain new theory or question my student on the topics we have done in the previous lessons. During the main part of the lesson, I would ask my student to solve some problems I have prepared for them. Usually, I would ask them to tell me what to write on the whiteboard, this way I can clearly see their thought process, and in case of a struggle, I can lead them towards the correct answer. If we have time, at the end of the lesson, I would talk about a topic which is not on the syllabus but which might be interesting to my student. This way I believe they can see how different parts of mathematics can interact with one another, and how interesting the subject can truly be.
