About Makenna
Hey! I'm a Senior in High School and I have been in band for 7 going on 8 years. I began playing Trumpet at 10 years old and have always strived to be on top. My French Horn career began around when I was 14 years old and that’s when it became my main instrument. I've still continued Trumpet in Jazz band and I do many other activities such as Show band, pit orchestra, and I was a part of the DSM Horn Club for one year. I also have a very strong love for marching band where I've played the Mellophone for 3 years beginning in 2023. Some of my accomplishments include: 2024 All-State band, 2025 All-state alternate for band, 2024-25 Drake honor band, 2024-25 SCIBA honor band, and 2019-20 Marion honor band. My plan for the future is to continue my path in music and make a life out of teaching and playing. I have a very strong passion for music that I want to convey to as many people I can reach, and I want to teach other learning musicians what this is all about and how to do it!

My knowledge is mainly on French Horn, Trumpet, and Mellophone. But that does not limit me from teaching valuable lessons to kids who play other instruments as well. I'm willing to teach anywhere from brand new learners on any wind instrument, up to people who are around my age with an already developed skill set on brass instruments. In my lessons I will give constructive feedback on basic skills and fundamentals, help with any music that's been given by another band director or teacher, as well as find new literature for students to learn. I will always be open to more ideas if anything for me to learn and teach!
