About Rachel

I have worked in primary schools for over 20 years across all year groups. I have also worked with children with additional needs and for whom English is an additional language. I have an Honours Degree in Literature which included studying Shakespeare. I love reading, music and dance and also enjoy speaking French. I have three grown-up children and a grandchild who has just started school. I am very friendly and approachable and love learning and discovering! I have been tutoring online since April 2020.

About the lesson

Learning is fun and that is how I want my students to think about it too. If you need to brush up on your Shakespeare, practise English skills or if you are looking for help with early reading and/or counting skills, I can help! I make learning exciting and engaging and like to tap into learner's interests to maintain their engagement. I love teaching phonics and reading skills as well as the foundations of counting and number sense. It is so important to equip children with the basic literacy and numeracy skills that they will need for their next steps in education and life. If you are looking to improve your English as a second language, I would love to be able to help you too. I enjoy talking to people and can help with either conversation or written English. I am also able to help with French, which I studied to A-Level. I am very friendly, positive and caring, I will help you or your children learn and succeed by giving lots of praise and encouragement combined with tips and ways to do even better. I use a mixture of resources, tailored to each student, which might include reading online books, discussion, guiding students on ways to improve writing (to build confidence and independence) conversation and online songs/videos/games. I am also flexible and very adaptable and I welcome new ideas and suggestions that my students might have for learning.
