About Emily
I don't have a teaching degree. Rather my experience is from teaching my younger siblings and my son how to read, as well as assisting my nephews when their teachers failed to meet their needs.I have always had a love of reading, and want to share that with children. I want kids to be able to experience the worlds that are opened up by being a proficient reader.

For beginner readers I like the book Teach Your Child To Read in 100 Easy Lessons. Phonetics can be helpful for kids struggling to make sense of reading. Simply reading fun stories together while explaining pronunciation is an enjoyable way to learn. It's important that reading be fun and exciting, not feel like a chore or punishment.
