About Vivian

Hi, I’m Vivian. I’ve always loved learning - and just as much, I’ve loved helping others learn too. I studied history and politics at undergraduate level, and later went on to do a Master’s in social policy and research methods. Along the way, I developed a real appreciation for critical thinking, argumentation, and writing. But what’s kept me passionate about these subjects is seeing how they come to life in conversation, in teaching, and in the ways we make sense of the world. I’ve had the privilege of working with young people in a tutoring capacity, especially those with caring responsibilities. That experience was eye-opening and meaningful - it showed me how varied each student’s challenges can be, and how important it is to meet them where they are, with patience and understanding. I love the moment when something clicks for a student, when a tough topic suddenly feels manageable. Watching that progression is one of the most rewarding parts of teaching for me. Outside of tutoring, I’m an avid reader and always curious about new perspectives. I really enjoy working with students from different disciplines - every lesson feels like a chance to learn something new together, not just teach. For me, tutoring is about building confidence, sparking ideas, and creating space for people to find their voice in their work.

About the lesson

Hi there, My name is Vivian and I am trained in social research methods and history and politics. Both degrees have given me a strong foundation in critical thinking, academic writing, and argumentation. I believe that every tutor must bring not only knowledge but adaptability, empathy, and an ability to communicate complex ideas clearly. My academic background has equipped me to deliver lessons that are tailored to each student’s needs - whether they're developing research questions, structuring essays, or navigating theoretical material. Having written two 12,000–15,000 word theses, I’m experienced in guiding students through extended projects and helping them build coherent, persuasive arguments. I also specialise in providing high-quality, original support that goes beyond what generic, AI-generated material offers - ensuring students produce work that is intellectually rigorous and authentic. My knowledge of diverse research methods means I can support a wide range of approaches, from qualitative analysis to comparative studies, and adapt to different academic expectations.
