About Sydnee

Hi, I’m a social work student with experience supporting children in academic and developmental settings. I am a substitute teacher for K-12. I tutor English and writing for kindergarten through 8th-grade students, focusing on building confidence, strong foundational skills, and a positive relationship with learning. I believe students do best when they feel supported, understood, and encouraged.

My approach is patient, structured, and tailored to each student’s needs. I break down reading and writing concepts into manageable steps and provide clear, constructive feedback that helps students understand why something works, not just how to fix it. Creating a safe and supportive learning environment is a priority for me, so students feel comfortable asking questions and making mistakes as they learn.

My background in social work shapes how I tutor. I value empathy, professionalism, and consistency, and I strive to build trust with both students and families. Lessons are well-organized, goal-oriented, and focused on steady progress in reading, grammar, writing, and comprehension.

About the lesson

As a tutor, I use a patient, supportive, and student-centered approach shaped by my background as a social work student. I focus on meeting each child where they are and building confidence while strengthening English and writing skills. Lessons are broken into simple, manageable steps so students feel successful rather than overwhelmed.

A typical lesson starts with a brief check-in and review of what the student is currently learning in school. We set a clear goal for the session, such as improving grammar, organizing a paragraph, building reading comprehension, or practicing sentence structure. Lessons include guided practice, age-appropriate examples, and positive, specific feedback. I adjust pacing and teaching style based on the student’s learning needs and attention level.

What sets me apart is my empathy, patience, and strengths-based approach. Instead of focusing only on mistakes, I highlight what students are doing well and help them build from there. My social work training helps me create a safe, encouraging environment where students feel comfortable asking questions and trying new skills.

My lessons are designed for kindergarten through 8th-grade students who need support with English, reading, grammar, writing, homework help, or overall academic confidence. I am especially helpful for students who benefit from one-on-one attention, structure, and encouragement.
