My teaching methodology depends on my student's needs and interests. It is important to understand why a student wants to learn a new language: to gain confidence when travelling abroad, to fill out job or college applications, to talk to a love interest he or she just met in the internet or just to be able to watch Mexican soaps in the vernacular. It is no use to teach a student language that will not have any use in his or her life. Language is a vibrant , lively tool that should enrich a person's life, it should not damage that person's confidence. I try to make my student relax because a tense student will not warm up to the use of the new language. BUT, I encourage the learning and usage of correct grammar, teaching aides such as audio visual material, and practice writing exercises from day one. Also, I enforce the use of the language I am teaching because practice is the key to acquiring the language in a natural way, as oppose to memorizing rules that are soon forgotten.
