About Belen
In my eight years of tutoring Spanish and teaching more than 150 students, I’ve found that the most meaningful progress happens when students feel safe to make mistakes. I work primarily with high school and college students, many of whom are juggling multiple subjects and feeling stressed about falling behind. That’s where I come in. I create a calm, encouraging environment where we can break language learning into manageable steps. We don’t just drill vocabulary or memorize verb charts—we use language in real conversations that reflect your interests, whether that’s travel, pop culture, food, or family. I also include mini cultural lessons to help students connect more deeply with the Spanish-speaking world—things like local customs, popular songs, or how slang varies from country to country. One student I worked with was failing Spanish and told me they felt completely lost. After a few weeks of one-on-one work, focusing on high-frequency verbs, useful phrases, and a lot of speaking practice, they started answering questions in class and earned a B on their final. That’s why I love tutoring—it helps students realize they’re capable, even if they’ve struggled in the past. I’m here to help you learn, grow, and maybe even enjoy Spanish along the way.

My approach to teaching Spanish centers around creating a positive, supportive space where students feel empowered to take ownership of their learning. Compassion is key—I understand that every student faces different challenges and that language acquisition can be both exciting and frustrating. I encourage persistence and celebrate every milestone, big or small, to build motivation and self-belief.
I teach with integrity by focusing on genuine comprehension, helping you understand grammar rules in a way that makes sense, and showing how these rules function in real communication. Adaptability means I customize lessons to your goals and preferred learning styles, whether that’s through speaking practice, writing, listening, or cultural discussions. I incorporate a variety of resources such as interactive apps, videos, and authentic reading materials to enrich your experience and keep lessons dynamic.
By connecting language learning to your interests and life goals, I help you develop not only linguistic ability but also cultural awareness and a lasting passion for Spanish. My goal is to support you in becoming a confident, effective communicator who feels at home in Spanish-speaking environments.
